Has anyone else noticed that the weather is a little odd lately? I'm not sure if Mother Nature wants it to be spring or winter. In one day we've had a combination of sunshine, rain and hail! In the Lower Mainland it's common for us to get lots of rain but I'm ready for some warm sunshine! In between bouts of rain, I managed to get my husband, step-daughter and dog out for a hike.
As we started out on the trail there was no one else around. It was us and nature. So peaceful and quiet with only the sound of the birds.
The weather was overcast with the occasional light rain. Underneath the canopy of trees we remained dry.
I love the look of these ferns growing with the moss on the trees!
The dominant trees in this area are Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata) and Western Hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla). There is also an abundance of ferns, moss, lichen and ivy. Everywhere you look there is life! There are many different species of plants and animals all around you! To find many of them all you have to do is look down. There are many mosses, lichens, ambhibians and insects. Look at a piece of decaying wood, lift it up and you can see a multitude of plant and animal life! You may be lucky enough to find a salamander.
Remember to look and appreciate your findings in their natural habitat and then leave them there. They are best suited to survive in their own environment!
I didn't bring my tripod with me so I had to make do with a faster shutter speed. Otherwise I would have been able to capture a nice silky smooth water effect in the picture below. Besides, I was already running lots to keep up with my husband and step-daughter. No one really wants to wait for you as you stop repeatedly to take pictures! LOL!
